Web Design
Wakefield

01

Where we are, and why that is on this page

Our office is Unit F4, Southgate Business Centre, 32 Gillygate, Pontefract WF8 1PQ. Pontefract is one of the towns in the City of Wakefield district, along with Castleford, Normanton, Featherstone, Knottingley, Ossett and Horbury. So when we say we are a Wakefield web design company, we mean the district we are actually in, not a city we have picked off a map.

Worth checking

Plenty of agencies rank for a town they have never worked in. A registered address, a local phone number and a Google listing you can open are all easy to check. Do check ours.

What being nearby changes, and what it does not

We would rather set this out honestly than tell you distance decides the quality of a website. It does not.

Working out what you need

The first conversation is better in a room. You can show us the spreadsheet, the old system and the thing that annoys you daily.

We do this on a call for clients all over the country and it works. It is just slower to get to the real problem.

Reviewing the site before launch

Sitting together while someone clicks through it surfaces things a written list of comments never does.

A shared screen covers most of it. You will still spot the same problems, just with more back and forth.

How the site is actually built

Nothing. The code is the same wherever you are sitting.

Correct. Anyone telling you a local developer writes better code is selling you the drive, not the work.

Getting hold of someone

You can turn up. Some people value that a great deal and it is a fair reason to choose someone near you.

A firm two hundred miles away that answers the phone beats a local one that does not.

Choose on the work and the people. If two firms are equal and one of them is up the road, take the one up the road.

Common questions

Are you actually based in Wakefield?
We are in Pontefract, which sits inside the City of Wakefield district. Our address is Unit F4, Southgate Business Centre, 32 Gillygate, Pontefract WF8 1PQ. So we are a Wakefield district business rather than one in the city centre itself. It is about nine miles between the two. We would rather say that plainly than claim an address we do not have, because you can check it in about ten seconds and you should.
Do we have to meet in person?
No. Most projects run perfectly well over calls and email, and plenty of our clients are nowhere near Yorkshire. Being close by simply means meeting face to face is easy when it helps. That is usually most useful at the start, when we are working out what the site has to do, and near the end when you are reviewing it. The rest rarely needs anyone in a room.
How much does a website cost in Wakefield?
The town does not change the price, the work does. What moves it is the number of pages, how much design is bespoke, who writes the words, and whether it has to connect to anything you already use. Moving content from an old site adds work too. We write a scope covering all of that and price against it, so you agree to a defined piece of work rather than an hourly rate that can run on.
Do you only work with businesses in Wakefield?
No. We build for businesses across the UK and most of that work is remote. This page exists because people search for a web designer near them, and it is a fair thing to want. If you are in the district you can come and sit with us. If you are not, nothing about the work changes. We would rather be honest about that than pretend distance matters more than it does.
Can you take over a website somebody else built?
Yes. We start by reading the site and its hosting rather than guessing, then tell you what it runs on and what state it is in. Sometimes the answer is that it needs a few fixes and someone to look after it. Sometimes it has drifted far enough that replacing it costs less than propping it up. We say which one we think it is, including when that means less work for us.
Do you do SEO as well?
Dev Moves is the software and website side. SEO Moves is our sister company and the same people run both, so we build sites with search in mind from the start rather than bolting it on afterwards. That means the page plan, the headings, the internal links and the code are all decided with search in view. If you want ongoing SEO work as well, we can point you at the right part of the business.
What happens after the site goes live?
A website is not finished when it launches. It sits on other people's software that keeps changing underneath it, so it needs updates, backups and the occasional fix. We offer ongoing website support and maintenance for that, and you are free to take it elsewhere or handle it yourself. Either way you get the code, the content and the access details, so nobody is holding your site hostage.
